As you may already know, tooth decay is a serious and dangerous dental problem that needs to be avoided as much as possible. However, that might be a difficult goal to achieve if you aren’t sure how to prevent tooth decay in the first place. So, to help you, Dr. McFatter and our Beachton Denture Clinic and Dental Center team recommend doing the following things on a regular basis:
Keep up on oral hygiene
Make sure you brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash. These techniques will help you eliminate the harmful particles that live on your smile each day. It’s also important to visit your dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup. These appointments will include the only treatment that can completely remove plaque from your smile, which is another substance that can create tooth decay if left untreated.
Take advantage of fluoride
Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that can be found in natural resources. It helps strengthen and nourish your teeth on a regular basis, so it’s best to get the fluoride you need each day. You can do so by using fluoride toothpaste, using fluoride mouthwash, and drinking fluoridated tap water.
Chew sugarless gum
If you chew sugarless gum regularly, or at least for 20 minutes after each meal, you will produce saliva, which will help wash away the bacteria, germs, and debris that cause tooth decay.
